A Library Secret from Matt at the Reference Desk:

“If you haven’t heard already, RefWorks is a great tool to use when writing research papers and for making citations. It is pretty easy to use once you get the basics down and if you haven’t used it before, I would recommend taking a RefWorks class with Kelly Jenks. She  knows just about everything that RefWorks can do and can answer any questions regarding it. She has classes a couple times a week [during most of the school year] and they are extremely helpful!”

There aren’t any more scheduled RefWorks training sessions for this semester, but Kelly Jenks is happy to take your questions and work with you one-on-one.  Contact the Reference Desk for more info: refdesk@gonzaga.edu, 509-313-5931.

I took a great RefWorks class last week where one Gonzaga student declared it “revolutionary“.
Have you tried RefWorks? What did you like/dislike about the program? Would you recommend it to other students?

If you would like to take a training session, the schedule is posted here.

I am so happy that I was able to attend a RefWorks class, there are so many great things that I can do with it.  I am always amazed at how quickly I can get distracted while browsing the web and before I know it, I’m left with no idea of where I found any information and am left scrambling, usually unable to retrace my steps.  With RefWorks I am able to quickly gather, organize, and access all of my research without ever having to worry about not being able to find it.

As soon as I find information that I am interested in I quickly export it into RefWorks, copy it into it’s appropriate folder, and continue surfing.  When I am ready to focus on one particular topic, I simply open RefWorks, scroll through my folders, and select the one that I am interested in.  I can’t imagine how many folders I would have if I would have known about RefWorks three years ago!
