The Tulsa City-County and the Miami-Dade Public libraries are both taking initiative to educate their communities about the rich culture that surrounds each city.

The work of these libraries enables the community members to gain an understanding and appreciation of the cultures that influence and affects their daily lives.  In Class Matters, we encounter a lack of understanding and empathy for other cultures, merely due to self-imposed isolation as well as our ethnic “bubbles.”  Like some individuals in Class Matters, many Americans are afraid to step out of their comfort zones, and the efforts of these libraries are helping to bridge the gap between unfamiliar ways of life.  The cultural events put on by the Tulsa City-County library and the Miami-Dade library are working toward opening communication, blurring class lines and uniting all Americans.
