Interesting Facts about the Library

Today I went to the library and I learned many interesting things! There are many ways you can access the library even if you are not able to actually come into the library. Isn’t that cool? You can always call them and you of course can email them, but the best thing is Meebo. You can use this to IM a librarian. I tried this out and the librarians are really friendly, and you get a very quick response. That will definitely come into use if you can’t make it into the library and need to know something fast. Another interesting thing I learned about was the Research Guides that are available for EVERY subject. They can be found on the menu on the left side of the library website, just open one up and you will have tons of information right before your eyes! Need help writing a tough paper? You can visit the Writing Center located to the right once you enter the library. There are upperclassmen English majors readily available to help you with any problems you are having with your paper. Also, if you are having trouble formatting a bibliography for a research paper, they can help with that too. Flyers for different subjects are located on the pillar in front of the reference desk which is another source of information. Just behind the reference desk is the Popular Collection which is where you will find a variety of non-educational books for a fun read when you have some down time. A fun fact I learned is that right behind the reference desk there are a bunch of movies that you can check out. Have a fantastic day and come visit the library soon!

Local Solutions to Local Issues

Article Summary: Access to resources is important when disparities in a community need to be reformed.

The theme of community-building is prevalent in this article as a solution to solving social issues that create injustices in a small, local area. Resources such as Adult Literary Services, the Toronto Public Library, crime prevention and recreation programs, leadership programs, homework clubs, and cultural awareness programs were available to the public to empower, overcome, and support people in the community. These programs help even the playing field for disadvantaged people.
