Mission: Fact Finding in Foley

Through our recent fact finding mission concerning specifications about the Foley Library, we found some unique information that may be helpful to new students. First, in the Study Lounge we found that it functions as the location for the Writing Center as well. This Lounge is open  between 20 and 24 hrs. a day and is also compiled of vending machines providing school supplies, including USB drives, colored pencils, and paper clips; pop machine, and snack vending as well. The Study Lounge also includes a handicap bathroom. Making studying more comfortable, the Lounge offers a variety of cozy couches, swivel chairs, as well as desks and tables. The Study Lounge, as well as the atrium area, is a “green zone,” which means students are permitted to talk respectfully amongst themselves as opposed to a “red zone,” where no talking is allowed. Second, in the Atrium we came across the “Knights” and “Setons” Escort Desk. This is open Sunday to Thursday from 8:00 p.m. to midnight which provides escorts back to the dorms if necessary. What makes the Atrium different from the rest of the library is that smelly, noisy, and messy foods are allowed, and it is open all hours of the day. The Atrium also supplies a telephone, Gonzaga Bulletin newspapers, a library directory, and an information posting board. Third, in the study lounge we found a copy machine that is not yet in production but will be available for use later next week along with at least eight computers available at that time for students to use. Also, on our exploration journey we came across some unknown information including: the presence of media rooms, free Wall Street Journals, the ease of checking out books, the available faxing services, and numerous studying quarters.

About Class Matters:

The Marion County Public Library System is hosting “Book Break” for elementary students designed to encourage kids to become more interactive with reading outside of school.

Class Matters reveals the importance of Education and General Knowledge among the classes and “Book Break” satisfies these fluctuations among social classes. By giving young students a place to connect with a book after school they are able to subconsciously increase their general knowledge and understanding of culure. Through this month’s mystery and spooky stories kids will engage their minds by thinking critically together, no matter what class they are in.
