Finding Technology in the Library

Hey Gonzaga freshmen! If you haven’t discovered the Foley Library yet, here are some helpful ways to find your way around and utilize the technology available to you.  First of all, the lower level is where the IT help desk is located.  There is also a variety of technical services such as the new STAR Board, a Big Screen T.V., Hot Tables and multiple T.V’s, D.V.Ds and V.C.Rs.  The STAR Board is available on a first come first serve basis.  It acts as a larger interactive screen for your computer.  This could be ideal for group projects.  In order to use the STAR Board, you either need to have the software downloaded to your laptop or you can check out a Lenovo laptop, which has the software already downloaded, from the circulation desk, located on the main floor.  Next is the Big Screen T.V.  This screen allows you to hook up your laptop and it will project on the big screen.  This however, does not act as an interactive board and does not have access to cable.  Although, the Foley Library is completely wireless, the Hot Tables allow you to hook your laptop up to live ports.  These Hot Tables are located on the lower level and the second level.  The last technical service provided are the multiple T.V.s, D.V.Ds and V.C.Rs.   T.V.s are located right under the stairs on the lower level and right behind the Reference Desk on the main level.  Also, if you are working on a goup project you can reserve a media room, which is located on the second floor.  If you ever have any questions the Foley Library staff is here for you!

Angela Whitiker: Class Matters

Click here for full text on this article.

The West Dakota Parent and Family Resource Center introduced a program which offers parents the opportunity to enroll in classes that will teach parents how to deal with stressful parental situations.

The West Dakota Parent and Family Resource Center’s mission is to help parents who do not have the resources to be a successful parent.  Such a program would have greatly benefited Angela Whitiker from the article “Angela Whitiker’s Climb,” in the book Class Matters.  Angela Whitiker, a former troubled teen who found herself on the bottom rung, turned her life around with a program similar to the one in West Dakota.  If Angela had this type of resource earlier in her life, it not only would have benefited her, but also her family as a whole.   Not having this type of resource herself allowed her children to go down the same path.  Angela underwent a major transformation in her life.  A program such as the one put on by Parent and Family Resource Center gives struggling parents the opportunity to undergo a transformation also.  This transformation not only helps themselves but the well being of their children.  It gives parents the skills they need to successfully raise a family which will in turn create a contributing member of society.
