We looked at ways students find articles using library databases and the print journals on the lower level.  We also found out about scanning in Foley.

Two popular databases that are frequently used for students to find information for papers and research projects are:

  • JSTOR –  Which is a database that contains full articles and volumes of texts.  To use JSTOR go to the Gonzaga University Library Website, go to the Find Articles section, click on the drop down bar and select JSTOR.   Then search for the information needed.  To find full text articles enter the search term on the JSTOR search menu.  When the search results page comes up find the article of interest and select the PDF link.
  • ProQuest – Which is a database that contains magazine, newspaper, and scholarly articles.  To use ProQuest go to the Gonzaga University Library homepage, and click the Find Articles link, click on the drop down bar and select ProQuest.  Then search for the intended information.   To find full text documents select the full text option on the search filter on the ProQuest homepage.

There are three types of scanners found in the Foley Library, they are:

  • The Flatbed Scanner – The flatbed scanner is for scanning and editing pictures.  Only one page can be done at a time, therefore every page is a different PDF.
  • Microforms Scanner- Turns microforms into PDF documents that can be emailed.
  • MFP Scanner – There are four MFP scanners in the library.  One in the twenty four hour study, one down stairs, and two upstairs.  These are the best scanners for scanning and emailing articles.  Multiple pages can be turned into one PDF.

Remember that if you ever need help the librarians are there to assist you in all of your research!

Information on Class Matters:

Volunteers gather certain books and donate them to local prisons. Each book must be carefully scrutinized. This follows Class Matters because education is the key to success, and or the building blocks to having a successful life. Some of the books that are sent to the inmates deal with their own race and studies they can pursue. Inmates even behind bars are still trying to advance their education by reading books on receiving a GED.
