This blog involves librarians and their influence on Class Matters.

Following the wreckage of Hurricane Katrina, Proquest partnered with IBM to develop a “shelter library” which provides much needed services such as internet access, homework help, recreational reading, and even help filing insurance claims.

This shelter library, which serves as a substitute for the Baton Rouge Public Library, helps those affected by Hurricane Katrina who, after losing all of their possesions, do not have the rescources to continue with their education, career, or even daily life.  For example, the librarians of the shelter library provide students with internet access and help with their homework so that they can keep up with their education, and it also helps adults file insurance claims and stay connected with loved ones.  This library and the people who volunteer there are doing their part in helping those who are in the lower class due to a natural disaster continue with their lives and, eventually, hope to improve their situation.
