Is Interlibrary Loan important to you? November 12, 2008

How does Interlibrary Loan work for you?  Do you know what it is?  Even here at Gonzaga there are students and faculty that Love ILL with a capital L and use it to its fullest extent, and there are some who have never heard of it. It isn’t possible that any one library can hold all the articles, books and videos in the world.  So, a long time ago, libraries instituted a system of exchanging material with other libraries called Interlibrary Loan.

ILL is not instantaneous so PLAN AHEAD.  I was a procrastinator; I know how easy it is to think “I still have two weeks until that is due” and suddenly that expanse of time you thought you had has dwindled to two days.  Unfortunately though, ILL is not instant, if your paper is due tomorrow it isn’t going to work for you but when you do have more time, ILL can be a great way to get the perfect article or book.

If you can give us a citation, we will try our hardest to get it for you as soon as we possibly can.

I’m a doctoral student. ILLIAD is vital for me. Although I am able increasingly to get full text in the various databases there are still many items I order through ILLIAD. Generally the time factor doesn’t matter since I’m working on a long term project. It is important to plan ahead though.

The ILL team at GU is the BEST! During my dissertation, I found some great resources that only ILL could get for me, and they got them to me ASAP. Keep up the great work!!

ILL is the ONLY way I was able to complete my thesis research so thuroughly, quickly, and completely. It is, without a doubt, the resource that I use most often at GU. Although it is no way to do a last-minute project, the turn-around is usually very fast and has never been a problem for me. I think anyone doing research with the amount of depth that really requires ILL will be working on a long enough timeline that ILL really works well for them.

ILL is a lifesaver! Recently, when for some reason the ILL sent the wrong article, the Foley staff immediately found the correct one and e-mailed it to me. I use ILL for both books and journal articles. Thanks!

I love ILL! I was required to do multiple research papers this semester, and I could not have completed them without it! I would like to be able to keep the books a little longer as well. Some of my projects spanned the entire semester and it’s difficult to cite them after I’ve returned them.

Very.
Without ILL I would be thoroughly frustrated.

EBSCO, ILL, and Refworks are amazing! But what I also love is the IM a GU Librarian! Now that is amazing! Even working from home at 11:45pm, I had a librarian help me through a tough EBSCO find. Thank-You!!!
